Skin Therapy Program

Kohler Academy offers comprehensive programs for hair stylists and skin therapy specialists. Prerequisites are minimal.

facialStudents in Kohler Academy's Skin Therapy Program use theory and clinical practice to learn what they need to succeed as a skin therapist. From scientific concepts about cells, metabolism, bacteriology, and human anatomy and physiology, to best practices in mask therapies, hair removal, and facial treatments, Kohler Academy stresses the basics as well as advanced education.

Kohler Skin Therapy Program graduates will leave the program with a deep knowledge of chemistry, skin types, advanced skin therapy treatments, and makeup application. They’ll also understand the importance of sterilization and sanitation, OSHA standards, health and safety, ethics, and best business management practices.

All Kohler Academy Skin Therapy Program students spend time in the Spa Clinic, interacting with and servicing guests in a real-world setting. The Spa Clinic is open to the public, and includes a professional reception area, retail shop, and 12 facial beds.

In addition to hands-on experience with real people, Kohler Academy students receive valuable classroom training in the following courses:

  • Clinical and laboratory aesthetics including theory that involves all skin types
  • Principles and practices of infection control and safety
  • Recognition of diseases and the treatment of disorders of the skin
  • Clinical and laboratory practice that includes face and body
  • Morphology and treatment of skin, including face and body, by hand and machine
  • Product pharmacology and chemistry interaction, formulation, composition, and hazards
  • Aesthetics machines, tools, and instruments and their related uses
  • Alternative skin technology
  • Pre- and post-client consultation, documentation, and analysis
  • Spa body modalities
  • Exfoliation modalities
  • Body and face massage and manipulations
  • Body and facial hair removal except by electrolysis or laser
  • Cosmetic enhancement applications
  • Required industry standards and ecology, including monitor duties
