Back to all Success Stories...

Kristina Hines, Cosmetology Program alumnus

When did you graduate?
I graduated April 23rd 2008. Actual ceremony was May 9th.

Where are you working?
I am working at Taglio! Love it!

How did you get your job?
I actually got my job through my sister who is a stylist as well. She introduced me to the manager of Taglio and we had 2 interviews after that, and then I was hired!

Any exciting events that have happened since KA?
Exciting event since K.A. . . . . That would definitly be passing my written exam for state board and getting a job at Taglio Salon! Something really exciting was an Aveda class I got to attend at Taglio, they brought in two stylists from L.A. who teach for Aveda and we did a hands- on workshop. I am really learning the importance of continuing education!

Were there any techniques or anything else you learned at Kohler that really helped you get to where you are now?
I will never ever forget when Jill had her friend Melissa Yamaguchi come and speak to us. She taught me something that I am constantly passing on to other apprentices or stylists and even my friends and family!!!!! She said that everyone has an energy within them, and it''s always moving in them and back and forth between people. If you meet someone you don''t like or don''t get along with, the only reason that you might now work well together is because you have a different energy than them. After you realize that, then you can simply accept that and move on. Knowing that, I have avoided so many arguments and conflicts with just remembering that I might not have the same energy as that person. That has been extremely beneficial to me working in a salon!

What is your favorite memory of Kohler?
Oh my gosh, how could I ever pick only one favorite memory of Kohler when I was there for 11 months?!?!?!? Ok so here are a few; being elected for Secretary of Creativity, the staff dancing to songs from the Brady Bunch! Hahahahahaha! I think my most memorable moment at Kohler was my first day there. I learned so much about myself and it was the only day that I can remember every single detail about. I will never forget it because it was the first day of my new career!

Where to next?
Next on the agenda will be to continue my education with Taglio Salon which includes Aveda Congress in September, and get my chair within a year!
