Sara Johnson, Skin Therapy Program alumnus

Success and current position:
I currently work as a Lead Sales Aesthetician for Benefit Cosmetics at the new Brow Bar they opened. Because, during my time at KA, I had the opportunity to pursue an in depth training in Skin Therapy I felt very confident in my waxing abilities and knew this would be right up my alley. It's a full time salary plus tips position with full benefits including healthcare and paid holidays. Since starting in this position I have been able to utilize many skills that Kohler Academy helped cultivate such as planning monthly events, devising new and creative ways to build clienteles, writing press releases, and many similar tasks.

I am also able to utilize priceless leadership skills learned from Jill and other members of the KA staff such as how to have "fierce conversations" and how to coach and encourage my team without being aggressive or overbearing. Maybe most important: RETAIL, RETAIL, RETAIL! Sales and service goals make up the majority of my business management responsibilities. The experience I gained by prescribing skin care regimes using the Dermalogica face sheets has helped greatly.

Advice:
Any one considering a career in the beauty industry should carefully consider their school of choice. That decision will lay the framework for the rest of your career. I feel I could not have made a better choice in choosing Kohler Academy. Once you determine the right fit for you and your long term goals, jump in and never look back. With the right training, a little drive and determination, it will be the best decision you've ever made!

Working in the industry:
What I love most... I love changing people's lives! I love waxing a woman's brows for the first time and seeing the light come back in her eyes because its the best arch she's ever had and she literally looks years younger and much more rested. I also love when a client refers a friend whose color came out less than desirable by another stylist and she's considering going back to that old box color she didn't love before... and with a little color knowledge I am able to help her love her hair again! It's amazing the difference we can make in people's lives.
